Shutting Down Picasa

Yesterday I wrote about an issue with Picasa’s photo import which forced me to turn to a third party to get done correctly. I had hoped that Google would eventually fix the issue but those hopes were dashed when I read one of the trending headlines on Facebook: Say Farewell to Google’s Picasa. From there, the article linked me to Google’s Picasa Blog where I read the bad news from the source. “After much thought and consideration, we’ve decided to retire Picasa over the coming months in order to focus entirely on a single photo service in Google Photos.”

Que Pasa, Picasa? The Broken Import Function

Years ago I found myself looking through the My Pictures folder and realizing how unwieldy it was becoming. I spent some time developing and refining a structure for these photos which included segregating personal photos from the random pictures I downloaded from the web. For the sake of this post, I’ll make a distinction here: photos are photographs I’ve taken or received and pictures are cute cats and funny images I’ve downloaded from the web. Looking at my mess of photographs, I desired a means of being able to easily manage all the photos and in came Google’s Picasa.
